''Meeting the
demand for better explosive detection"
"Losing the war on
terror is not an option. But with all 21 out of 21 airports
failing to detect explosives being smuggled onto aircraft in a
recent US government-sponsored sting operation, luggage
screeners are clearly working with inadequate solutions."
"The market is
demanding better explosive detection. TraceGuard is dedicated
to meeting this demand."
OverviewTraceGuard
Technologies, Inc. develops solutions for the Homeland
Security market. The Company's automated trace extraction
and collection systems are designed to help in the detection
of explosives, drugs and biological contaminants.
Investment Highlights
-
The company believes that its patent-pending automatic
trace extraction technology is a highly effective
non-destructive physical method of determining the
presence of explosives, drugs and biological
contamination.
-
In a sting operation (October 05 - January 06), GAO
(Government Accountability Office) investigators were able
to smuggle explosives past screeners in their carry-on
luggage in 21 out of the 21 U.S. airports tested (Source:
EE Times Online.) Making air transport more secure has
emerged as a top priority for Homeland Security and
similar agencies. Over 4 billion pieces of carry-on and
checked luggage are screened each year worldwide. This is
expected to reach 7 billion pieces by 2010.
-
The company is developing solutions targeted at airport
authorities that need to effectively and economically
screen billions of Carry-on and Checked Baggage items
without disrupting passenger flow.
The trace collection modules and solutions being developed
by TraceGuard are designed to augment screening
technologies already being deployed in transportation
facilities, and to automate the extraction process with a
very high level of accuracy.
-
Because CarrySafe and other systems being developed by
TraceGuard are designed to be integrated into - and not to
replace - existing screening hardware, airport authorities
should be able to maintain their existing investment in
equipment without incurring any significant extra cost.
-
The Company is receiving media attention, most recently
when Chairman and CEO Dr Ehud Ganani was interviewed by
Diane Brady. A video of the interview featured in a recent
issue of BusinessWeek Online, described Dr. Ganani as
Israel's "defense guru."
Product Information
CarrySafe - an automated trace explosive extraction
system for carry-on luggage
The company is currently in the advanced development
stage of its CarrySafe system,. CarrySafe is designed to
automatically extract and collect particle residue of
explosives from suspect carry-on luggage during the airport
security screening process. At the core of the CarrySafe
system is TraceGuard's proprietary automated trace explosive
extraction method, which is designed to be sensitive enough
to collect very small traces of anyone who handled the
explosives. Designed to deliver greater accuracy and speed
than screening solutions based on manual checking, CarrySafe
should help shorten passenger lines.
Future Products Under Development
HoldSafe - screening system for checked-in hold luggage
HoldSafe is designed to be easily integrated into
existing CT-EDS (Computer Tomography Explosive Detection
Systems). Using a similar automated explosive trace
extraction process as CarrySafe, HoldSafe is designed to be
based on an automatic "Go/No Go" decision, and to be
independent of operator skill, experience or motivation. By
integrating HoldSafe into the equipment already deployed in
the screening process, airport authorities should require no
significant infrastructure changes.
CargoSafe - screening system for palletized cargo
Based on the Company's automated trace extraction
technology, CargoSafe is designed to deliver a more
efficient cargo screening solution. Currently, only a small
percentage of the 12.5 million tons of cargo carried each
year is checked for suspicious materials. Making CargoSafe
part of cargo screening should help reduce the risk of
explosives being transported in palletized airborne cargo.
Advisory board
In order to optimize its ability to achieve certification
by regulatory agencies, TraceGuard's Advisory Board is
composed of world renowned national security experts, former
high ranking officers in the Israeli Security Services, and
key consultants in the field of HomeLand Security,
Transportation Security and Strategic Planning:
-
" Mr. Uri Chen - former key "Mossad" top executive with
close links to national security agencies worldwide.
-
" Mr. Yacov Amidror - former high-ranking Israeli Military
Intelligence Corps officer. A world expert in
anti-terrorism. Serves as advisor to US Government
national security think-tank.
-
" Mr. Arie Yakuel -former head of Strategic Planning with
the equivalent rank of Major General. He was also head of
Israel's Bomb Squad, and oversaw the Police Force's R&D
efforts in the explosives detection and neutralization
-
" Mr. Avi Kostelitz - Among the world's leading experts in
airport security. Former CEO and Director General of the
Israel Airport Authority.
Market segments
TraceGuard is targeting a number of markets. Future
applications planned for the product pipeline:
-
Explosive detection: transportation terminals, border
crossings, shopping centers, public events
-
Drugs detection: prisons, border crossings, schools
-
Biological threats such as Anthrax: Mail services
-
Food safety: agricultural produce
-
Contamination: organic foods, pharmaceutical
TraceGuard technology is designed to deliver the following
benefits in relation to existing manual trace detection:
-
Automatic (rather than manual) trace collection from
within enclosures / closed luggage
-
Extraction of smaller quantities of trace materials
-
Faster inspection time
-
No dependence on operator skill, experience, motivation or
alertness
-
Reduced labor costs
Integrating TraceGuard technology with existing bulk
detection systems such as X-Rays should deliver the
following benefits:
-
Improved security
-
Better passenger throughput
-
Shorter lines
-
Fewer security personnel
