According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, cleantech investment surged by over 16% in 2014. There is no doubt that the nascent cleantech industry is taking off in a big way. Forestbioenergyreview.com reported that in response to the data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Ian Thomas of Turquoise International said that with a global value now pushing nearly $310 billion, the cleantech sector is experiencing welcome growth. Thomas, whose Turquoise International specializes in energy and the environment, said that most of the investments are going to wind and solar but “under the headline number there are very interesting and encouraging developments in other technologies and markets.”

Writing in the TechRepublic, Lyndsey Gilpin noted one of the key cleantech trends to watch in 2015 would be utilities investing in renewable energy. Gilpin believes that utilities will be good investments because of the aging national electric grid.

In this backdrop, Ener-Core Inc. (OTCBB:ENCR), the world’s only provider of Power Oxidation technology and equipment that generates clean power from low-quality and waste gases from a wide variety of industries, has strengthened its leadership team with appointments of energy and pollution control industry veterans to enhance commercialization activities.

ENCR announced this morning that it appointed John Millard as Director Europe/Middle-East (EME) Region and Mark Owen as Director of Sales. Both, Millard and Owen, will report to CEO Alain Castro. While Millard will operate from Zurich, Owen will be based in Irvine, California, the company’s headquarters.

Commenting on the new appointment, Castro said that Millard and Owen bring a tremendous amount of industry experience to ENCR, and the company is privileged to have both of them serve on its management team.

Millard has experience with a Swiss energy consulting company, where he was also a CEO, as well as at Enron Europe. He has also worked at ABB as the R&D manager in the power and automation technology company’s waste-to-energy division.

Owen is an expert on industrial pollution control systems and processes and has three decades of experience in the commercialization, installation and operational servicing of various types of air pollution control and waste treatment systems.

ENCR already has had the opportunity to work with Millard. According to Castro, the company has worked with Millard for 13 years on the development of various energy projects in Europe. Castro said that ENCR is now involved in an increasing amount of commercial opportunities with prospective customers throughout Europe. In addition, several companies are contacting ENCR for possible partnerships. Castro noted that there is a need for a senior member of ENCR team to be based in Europe and hence the new appointment.
