Medical device companies have traditionally focused more on the U.S. market. However, in the last few years, many companies are developing products keeping in mind the needs of patients in countries like China and India. In a report published in 2013, Bloomberg noted that several big medical device companies in the U.S. are now finding opportunities for collaboration with startup and established players in these markets. Bloomberg cited the example of Medtronic’s (MDT) alliance with India’s Apollo Hospitals. The Bloomberg report was from 2013 but the trend has not changed in 2015. Indeed, medical device companies continue to look east. This morning, Scottsdale, Arizona-based Airware Labs Corp. (OTCQB:AIRW), which is primarily engaged in the development, manufacture and distribution of nasal breathing devices, announced that its innovative AIR™ ALLERGY product will now be sold across India. The company said that 37 Apollo Hospitals and 250 Apollo pharmacy retail outlets will carry its product in India.

Apollo Pharmacy is the largest retail pharmacy chain in India and the agreement gives AIRW access to some of the most important Indian markets.

Commenting on this positive development, Jeffrey Rassas, CEO of Airware Labs, said that the company is very excited about the opportunity to partner with an organization that is dedicated to giving every citizen in India access to the highest quality of healthcare. Rassas noted that airborne pollutants remain a devastating problem across India and air pollution is the 5th largest killer in India. New Delhi, India’s capital city, is in fact now the world’s most polluted city. Rassas believes that the AIR™ ALLERGY product offers an effective, affordable choice in addressing serious health challenges.

AIRW’s AIR ALLERGY consists of a 3M filtration media that stops allergens. It also consists of a blend of proven, therapeutic premium oils that provide additional antimicrobial protection and symptomatic relief.

AIRW said this morning that the sale of its AIR® ALLERGY product in India marks another step forward in successful execution of its plan to grow its domestic and international market penetration through partnerships with leading retail and health locations.

Indeed, the news of sales expansion into India comes just a few weeks after Airware Labs announced plans to expand manufacturing, distribution and sales of its AIR® filtered nasal products in China. The company said that its nasal filters will be rebranded and sold in pharmacies throughout China through a joint venture. Like India, air pollution is a major problem in China, especially in big cities like Beijing.
