Environmental Small-Caps -
Investing In A Green World by Greg Moses -
AllPennyStocks.com News Reporter
February 21, 2007 (AllPennyStocks.com Media Inc.) - Many
scientists believe global warming is fast becoming a looming
crisis. Global warming of the Earth's atmosphere and oceans
has been on a steady upward climb since 1850, with the
industrialization of the world. The root cause has been traced
back to the burning of fossil fuels, resulting in greenhouse
gas concentrations.
Governments are looking to be a part of the solution. Many
offer financial incentives to industry and consumers to make
choices and changes, one action at a time, which will
ultimately reduce greenhouse gases and improve the
environment. Government subsidies and incentives encourage car
sharing and the use of public transport, high occupancy
highway ( HOV ) lanes, home solar energy installation credits,
and energy efficient home appliances.
With all the discussion about global warming and rising
pollution levels, attentive investors benefit from staying
abreast of up and coming proactive environmental companies.
Firms committed to seeking solutions to what appears to be the
earth's most pressing problem in the 21st century. Beyond the
obvious benefits to the earth, the Environmental Sector is a
dynamic and exciting financial investment sector to consider.
Sector investing is an organized and logical way to look at
firms, grouped within a specific industry category. This
investment approach is especially popular with investors
seeking to achieve diversity and a degree of balance within
their stock investment portfolios. Diversity by industry
category or sector is one way to achieve balance within a
stock portfolio.
We hear much about Oil & Gas Exploration and Production
Companies, Gold Mining Stocks, and even the Homeland Security
Sector. But attractive stocks, also to consider, are earth
friendly stocks, running the gambit from tankless hot water
heaters to organic fertilizer firms, found in the fast growing
Environmental Sector. With these firms, investors have the
investment potential, as well as knowing that their investment
is helping create a cleaner or greener world environment, to
some degree or in some way.
For this discussion, we have selected and searched out some
interesting environmental penny stocks to discuss, some
trading on Canadian exchanges, while others on U.S. exchanges.
We will be covering everything from electric cars to
alternative energy sources and other "green" companies.
One interesting OTC Bulletin Board stock is Earth Biofuels,
Inc.
(OTCBB: EBOF). The time has come to definitely consider
Biodiesel and Ethanol on a large scale. The mission of EBOF is
to reduce dependence on foreign energy while improving
environmental conditions through renewable domestic
alternatives.
Earth Biofuels is no start-up, but an emerging category
leader founded in Jackson , Mississippi in 2004. The Company
started with a pilot facility which converted restaurant
grease into biodiesel. Today, the Company is a vertically
integrated biofuels firm linking the entire supply chain. EBOF
is active in every step of the process from construction and
operation of production facilities; to blending and
transportation, and all the way to the branding and
development of retail outlets potentially nationwide.
Earth Biofuels has attracted the support of Oscar winning
actor Morgan Freeman and country music legend Willie Nelson
who have joined the Company, as both spokesmen and Members of
the Board. Further, EBOF has acquired the exclusive license to
sell and distribute the BioWillie® brand of biofuels. The
www.biowillieusa.com website is packed with information
regarding the industry and station locations.
Based In Salem , Utah, International Automated Systems,
Inc.
(OTCBB: IAUS) is a Company that develops high technology
products for diverse markets including energy production.
Their latest success is seen by Industry watchers as a way of
driving down the cost of solar panel manufacturing.
Their just announced achievement involves their high volume
solar panel manufacturing operation. The Company was able to
manufacture 1,000 Kilowatts of solar panels in a short 24 hour
production run. On a 24/7 operating schedule an estimated 350
Megawatts of panels could be produced annually. Conversely, to
achieve the same production levels and energy output capacity
from a traditional photovoltaic (PV) solar module
manufacturing plant would require a massive capital investment
estimated at $840 million to construct.
Unlike other solar technologies, such as traditional
photovoltaic panels (PV); the IAUS system does not require an
expensive inverter to convert DC power to AC. Further, an
expensive battery is not required for power storage.
The breakthrough IAUS system operates on heat and produces
heat as a byproduct. This created energy can be stored using a
chemical regeneration process. The chemical is then used to
create steam energy when there is no sun. This technology is
truly a revolutionary step forward in solar energy
development.
Headquartered in Toronto , Canada, Feel Good Cars
Corporation
(TSX-Venture: ZNN) offers an exciting electric luxury
vehicle. Doing business as the Zenn Motor Company, the Company
(www.Zenncars.com)
offers the ZENN(tm) electric low speed vehicle (LSV).
Upon seeing the vehicles, consumers find the product very
attractive and eye appealing, as it is the most sophisticated
vehicle in its class. It is a 100% electric vehicle that
produces zero emissions and operates with zero noise, but is
packed with luxury features. Recently, the ZENN(tm) was named
the Best Urban Vehicle at the coveted Michelin Bibendum
Challenge.
Part of the success of ZENN(tm) has been and will be its
strategic partnership with EEStor, Inc., which is an Austin ,
TX area startup. Under its Technology Agreement with EEStor,
Inc., ZENN(tm) holds the worldwide exclusive license for
EEStor's enhanced batteries for small and medium-sized
vehicles.
EEStor is developing greatly improved energy storage
technology for the electric vehicle industry. While currently
enhancing existing lead-acid based battery technology, Feel
Good Cars Corporation is positioned to implement new advanced
battery technology from EEStor, when it becomes commercially
available. The new battery technology will allow for greatly
expanded speed, expanded range, and reduced recharge times.
Due to these technological advances, electric cars will no
longer have many of the limitations that they have had in the
past.
Feel Good Cars has been on a very fast business growth
track. The Company went public on the TSX Venture Exchange in
January, 2006. Upon setting up a 40,000 square foot production
facility, they were able to deliver their first ZENN(tm) in
only 10 months. Already the Company has contracted 17 initial
retail dealer locations across the U.S. and is aggressive
recruiting additional retailers.
Much more business growth is planned, following the
recently announced completion of a $10 million dollar
financing. The Company has enjoyed broad investor support. The
shares of Feel Good Cars have advanced strongly in the last
six months having nearly doubled in value.
Another environmentally friendly vehicle maker is Santa
Rosa , CA electric car maker ZAP
(OTCBB: ZAAP). ZAP seen at www.zapworld.com is the world
leader in advanced transportation including electric cars,
fuel cell cars, hybrid cars, and electric scooters.
ZAP currently offers the XEBRA. ZAP calls the XEBRA a
'city-car,' with an all-electric design for city-speed driving
up to 40 MPH . The car plugs into a 110volt outlet for a full
charge in up to six hours and a 50 percent charge in 1.5
hours. Range varies up to 40 miles per charge with fueling
estimated to be 1-3 cents per mile.
ZAP announced recently plans for a new flagship electric
vehicle. Blending the excitement of a sports car with the
functionality of a SUV, the new ZAP -X Crossover Electric Car
will feature an enhanced battery management system. The
vehicle will be based on the advanced APX vehicle designed and
developed by Lotus Engineering. The vehicle will do 155 mph,
have a 350 mile range, and will require only 10 minutes of
recharge time, so basically a significant improvement over
their current models.
ZAP recently announced strong sales results. While
attending the National Automobile Dealers Association
Convention and Exposition in Las Vegas , the Company announced
that it has received purchase orders for 2300 electric cars
from 19 dealers.
Offering zero air pollution, ZAP vehicles save gas, save
money, help the economy, and combat global warming. Continued
Company success recently resulted in an announced 10 percent
stock dividend payable to shareholders on February 28, 2007 .
Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular as
technological advances provide increased speeds and range. The
initial production of the Tesla Roadster, by Tesla Motors (teslamotors.com),
which features 0 to 60 in about 4 seconds, sold out in only
four months. The Company is now accepting purchase
reservations for the 2008 model year cars on a first come,
first serve basis.
Finally, an interesting firm is U.K. based CO2 Tech
(Pink Sheets: CTTD). The Company markets anti-global
warming products that monitor and reduce carbon dioxide levels
which are well known to cause global warming.
CO2 Tech helps companies measure and reduce carbon
emissions from their operations in support of anti-global
warming initiatives. The Company's focus helps businesses and
governments alike. Its cutting edge control equipment is
designed for applications within heavy industries such as
petroleum. mining, manufacturing, woodworking, quarries, and
textiles.
Recently, CO2 Tech has been responding to investor calls
for corporate environmental responsibility and has taken a
proactive stand. To that end, the Company announced that it is
offering its carbon emission monitoring and compliance
assessment service at no cost. Newly announced as well, was
the release of a combined aqueous and vapor phase carbon
absorption software. Carbon absorption is a remediation
technology in which pollutants are removed from the air.
All being said, the Environmental Sector is an area where
Investors can make a statement in support of the environment.
But in addition, investors in this sector are positioned to
participate financially in the ever growing technological
advances designed to help the world today and into the next
century.
