Potential Benefits for
Millions of Type II Diabetics from Oramed Pharmaceuticals by

April 10, 2007 (AllPennyStocks.com Media Inc.) -
With Diabetes as a rapidly growing disease worldwide impacting
200 million people, the search for advanced treatment
solutions is center stage. Several firms are in the
competitive race to replace the need for insulin injection
therapy. One such alternative approach is the oral insulin
product, under development from Oramed Pharmaceuticals Inc.
(OTCBB: ORMP).
Oral insulin alternatives may have huge potential benefits for
millions of Type II Diabetics in the later stage of the
disease. Oramed is currently developing an orally ingestible
soft gel insulin capsule for the treatment of both types 1 and
2 diabetes. Until recently, the idea of an orally administered
insulin therapy was inconceivable due to gastric degradation
in the digestive system. Oramed has been successful in
engineering around that challenge.
ORMP is also pursuing the development of oral delivery
solutions for other drugs and vaccines. For example, the
Company announced on March 13, 2007 that it has begun pre
clinical testing on an oral replacement for the, in demand,
flu vaccine.
An oral flu vaccine could be a big market opportunity for the
Company. The current Flu Vaccine injections are administered
worldwide at a rate of over one billion doses disseminated
annually. Even if only a small portion of that global
business were to transition to the oral vaccine, that would be
a huge business opportunity for ORMP.
Oramed Pharmaceuticals Inc. is a development stage, Israeli
based pharmaceutical company focused on the development of
oral delivery solutions which are based on its proprietary
technology. Only in business operation for one year, the
Company has made great strides.
Oramed has recently received an analyst rating of “speculative
buy”, and has licensed its industry leading breakthrough
approach. In this pain free and injection free approach,
insulin is orally administered for the treatment of diabetes.
ORMP has been making great process in its race to create an
oral insulin solution. In 2006, the Company reported two major
business advances. These included a successful patent filing
with the World Intellectual Property organization (WIPO), and
a manufacturing agreement with Swiss Caps AG.
This very attractive manufacturing agreement sends a clear and
powerful signal. Swiss Caps AG, in business for over 25 years,
is one of the largest full service manufacturers of soft gel
capsules in the world. To have a company like Swiss Caps AG
accept ORMP as a client, and to support Oramed is a huge step
forward. Swiss Caps, in effect, validates the ORMP
technology, since the agreement calls for Swiss Caps to
produce the oral insulin capsules, for a direct share
exchange, in lieu of a cash payment.
Swiss Caps, from a business standpoint, understands that
Diabetes is a very common medical condition impacting millions
globally. With the disease, the amount of glucose in the blood
is rising because the body is unable to use it properly.
With the most common Type II Diabetes, which accounts for
about 90% of all diagnosed cases, diet and medications are
used in the early stages. As the dependency on alternative
medicines rise, the pancreas gradually loses its ability to
produce insulin. At this later stage, injections of insulin
may become necessary.
In recent years, several alternative methods to deliver
insulin have emerged. Of all the available alternative methods
to deliver insulin, including the insulin pump, the insulin
pen, and the inhaler, all are lacking a critical physiological
component. Only the oral capsules truly mimic the
physiological delivery of naturally producing insulin in the
body.
The challenge for Oramed, in making its product effective, has
been to figure out how to get the medicine delivered through
the digestive system and into the bloodstream. The Company’s
team of scientists at Hadassah University has been developing
a mechanism that enhances insulin absorption and prevents the
destruction of the insulin by gastric juices.
Oramed’s pre-clinical work with animals shows a significant
reduction in blood glucose levels. This would indicate that
oral insulin may be workable and effective. The Company is
eager to move forward with Phase I human clinical trials. In
the last year, the Company successfully surpassed and was
awarded the International Review Board and Ministry of Health
approvals to further its initial signature product, oral
insulin, towards human clinical trials.
Another step forward for the Company has been the building of
its Scientific Board of Directors, with world renowned
individuals contributing to the Company’s mission and goals.
Joining the group is Derek LeRoith M.D. PhD., who is currently
the Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Bone
Diseases at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. Also
named was Itamar Raz M.D. who is a professor of Internal
Medicine at Hadassah University Medical Center and Head of the
Diabetes Unit. Thirdly, Professor Ele Ferrannini, who is a
Past President of the European Association for the Study of
Diabetes has joined the Oramed Scientific Board.
All being said, given the global significance of Diabetes,
Oramed has a huge upside opportunity potential, with its
concept of an oral soft gel insulin capsule for the treatment
of the disease. While still in the early stage of development,
the next research steps to include human clinical trials
hopefully will validate the effort to date.
