According to microwaves & rf, the RF front-end market for handsets is expected to reach $12 billion by 2018. The forecast was made by Mobile Experts in their 180-page report on the market for RF components in handsets, tablets, PCs, and machine-to-machine modems. Mobile Experts also expects the convergence of multiple technologies, several of which are disruptive. The technologies include complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) power amplifiers (PAs), envelope tracking, antenna tuning, multimode, multiband PAs, filter integration and packaging techniques, carrier aggregation, and advanced multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in mobile terminals.

Mobile Experts notes in its extensive report that the RF front-end market is expected to grow quickly. However, amplifiers, filters, switchers, tuners and antennas are expected to grow at different rates.
