Nass Valley Gateway Ltd.

Featured Company / Nass Valley Gateway Ltd.

Two decades ago, it was a race for companies and investors to jump (often blindly) into the burgeoning legal marijuana space. Over time, the volatility has subdued, weak companies vanished and everyone – analysts, investors, companies and consumers alike – learned a lot more about what has become a legitimate and thriving market.

At the same time, consumers became educated on the broad therapeutic benefits of cannabinoids found in cannabis sativa, the taxonomic definition covering both recreational marijuana and its non-psychotropic cousin hemp. The two most widely known cannabinoids are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is responsible for the “high” associated with cannabis, and CBD (cannabidiol), a chemical compound of cannabis sativa that doesn’t have psychoactive effects (if it has any THC at all, it is only at negligible trace levels), but is trumpeted for a bevy of medical benefits.

In fact, cannabidiol is the active pharmaceutical ingredient in Epidiolex, an FDA-approved drug by GW Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:GWPH) for rare forms of epilepsy. CBD has been used for thousands of years and remains heralded today for applications treating pain, skin conditions, anxiety, depression, seizures, cancer-related nausea, insomnia, and PTSD, amongst dozens of other maladies and conditions, as well as simply being an immune booster.

Unlike marijuana, which contains THC and is illegal at the federal level in the U.S., (legal in Canada), hemp-derived CBD isn’t subject to such rigid regulation given it doesn’t have the psychoactive effect. Aside from being regulated with respect to health claims typical for nutraceuticals and other healthcare products, it is easily transported and marketed.

Citing growing consumer awareness and new products coming to market as driving forces, ResearchAndMarkets.com forecasts the global CBD oil and CBD consumer health market size will grow at a steady 25.6% annually to reach $123.2 billion by 2027.

Nass Valley: The All-Natural Edge

In the thick of the emerging market, Nass Valley Gateway (CSE:NVG) (OTCPK:NSVGF) is setting itself apart from peers by appealing to the discerning customer. Vancouver-based Nass is a seed-to-sale company focused on the cultivation, extraction and sales of organic, non-GMO, All-Natural seed CBD products for both humans and pets. Nass Valley CBD products are sold under the "Nass Valley Gardens" brand, an affiliate, via retail, wholesale, direct response, and digital sales channels.

The company offers both full spectrum and broad spectrum CBD products. In CBD nomenclature, “full spectrum” is pure, unprocessed and unfiltered hemp extract, so it delivers all the plant’s phytochemicals (i.e. cannabinoids, terpenes and essential oils), which can mean even trace amounts of THC. The combination provides what is commonly called the “entourage effect” that amplifies the effect of the individual components.

“Broad” spectrum is a newer process found between full spectrum and isolates (99% pure CBD “isolated” from every other phytonutrient). It is processed similar to isolates with the major difference being that only the THC is removed while all the other phytonutrients remain.

While most companies in the industry employ a “race to the bottom” pricing model, sacrificing quality along the way while using GMOs (genetically modified organisms) to grow plants faster, Nass Valley prides itself on its high farming, extraction and manufacturing standards, with all its products grown, extracted, manufactured and fulfilled in the U.S.A.

This model aligns with shifting consumer trends where today’s shoppers demand greater transparency in the products they purchase, particularly where the products come from and specificity in the ingredients. Like never before, consumers are attracted to, and willing to pay a premium for, products that they identify with, while the “natural” trend is one of the most important trends in the personal care industry.

The trend towards natural is equally true in the burgeoning pet CBD market that Bright Field Group forecasts to reach $1.7 billion by 2025. Considering 74% of CBD users have pets, it only makes sense to cross-sell into that market.

According to the 2019-2020 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, 67% of U.S. households own a pet, which equates to 84.9 million homes. The APPA also reported, “34% of the feline owners and 39% of the canine owners prefer CBD infused pet products.”

Nass Valley products available today include full and broad spectrum CBD pet treats and oil, a selection of CBD gummies (Night time, Immune Boost and Wellness) and a variety of lotions, oils and capsules in a wide range of dosages. The company is firmly in tune with the formulations and what they do, having completed over 300 analytic tests to collect detailed information on the safety and efficacy of its products.

An Emerging Giant: New Hope Labs Partnership

In a recent interview, Michael Semler, CFO and Director at Nass Valley, explained that despite the COVID-19 pandemic NVG was able to finalize a partnership with New Hope Labs. At first blush, this may seem like just another partnership, but the implications truly galvanized Nass Valley as a differentiated leader in the CBD market with one of, and perhaps the only, non-GMO, all-natural seed lines and THC-free broad spectrum products.

New Hope Lab Farms, the farming and manufacturing/fulfillment side of New Hope Labs, is a nationwide Clinical Research and Development Company that focuses on the development of resources using only natural hemp seed. This is a company with 30-40 years of experience in farming cultivation and genetics, inclusive of over a decade of highly relevant experience in CBD.

New Hope's operations include a presence in Montana, Colorado, Arizona, Wisconsin, Illinois, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, Vermont, New York, New Mexico, and Oregon, with extraction and manufacturing operations going back over 20 years in New York, Colorado, and Oregon.

Collectively, between ownership and partnership, this relationship between Nass Valley and New Hope Lab combines 12,000 acres in Colorado and 20,000 acres in Montana, positioning Nass Valley to potentially become a leading hemp grower in the global market sector.

Current manufacturing capabilities include the production of 4,500+ different consumer SKU items ready for retail sales, with new product lines being unveiled monthly. Daily manufacturing volumes facilitate the production of well over 500,000 items daily. Additional daily shifts can be increased to 2 or 3 and therefore seamlessly double and triple those volumes, potentially producing of over 1.5 million units per day, bottled, labeled, boxed, and prepared for shipment.

Here Comes the Marketing Blitz

Nass Valley runs an e-commerce business model for sales. Current marketing efforts include using email campaigns and digital leads with top industry advertising publishers to drive targeted traffic to its online site. Further, the company has partnered with Wasi, a call center with up to 300 live operators that have been trained to sell Nass Valley CBD goods to consumers and retailers.

In short, the manufacturing, packaging and sales team are fully accounted for, without accumulating an incredibly high monthly burn.

With those operations in place, Nass Valley is putting together more aggressive marketing. This includes a deal with a large publisher, a national organization to place ads on strategically identified sites, initiating a wholesaler business and launching a national influencer program. Simultaneously, two new major retailers have agreed to start carrying Nass Valley Gardens products.

As it amplifies its direct-to-consumer sales, the company is actively seeking big box retail pharmacies to add to its distribution channels.

A theme that oozes from Nass Valley is quality. Management has extensive experience in healthcare/wellness, advertising and capital markets. The board of directors includes award-winning actor Armand Assante (Gotti, When Nietzsche Wept, Mike Hammer, amongst other starring role in a 45-year career), who has been on board with the company’s strategy for over a year now. Assante will play a role in the influencer program when that kicks off in the coming months.

Forecast: $36 Million in Revenue

Nass Valley looks to be at an inflection point with all the pieces in place for the revenue stage.  Management intends to augment its organic wholesale sales efforts with advertising platforms, including physical and digital industry magazines. Over the next 12 months, the company feels it will be able to generate about $15 million in sales from wholesale operations.

Not surprisingly, retail is anticipated to be a larger opportunity. Leveraging its methods for outbound/inbound call campaigns, influencers, advertising publisher partners and other advertising tactics, management is targeting $21 million in revenue over the next 12 months for aggregate corporate revenue of $36 million.

Judging by shares of NVG essentially doubling in the last month, the company apparently is generating substantial interest in investment circles with its all-natural model, momentum that could continue to build as milestones are met.
