There are advocates for alkaline diets, claiming that they provide a variety of benefits to the body, including reducing the risk of cancer and heart disease, reflux disease and boosting energy levels, amongst other things. These people contest that a body that is too acidic is an open door for disease and poor health and many drinks and foods are too acidic. Ingesting alkaline products counterbalances those poor diets, if nothing else. Of course, there are opponents of the claims as well, championing the idea that the body is designed to keep its pH level in balance to create a homeostatic condition for cells. All chemistry and anatomy aside, the specialty water business is on the rise as consumers apparently see a benefit, outside of it simply tasting good and being chic. Even Dr. Mehmet Oz has promoted alkaline water, dubbing Evamor water as its official sponsor.

Alkaline Water Company Inc. (OTCBB:WTER) obviously also sits on the side of the fence that there is a benefit to alkaline water. The company, through its new wholly-owned subsidiary, has developed a state-of-the-art electrolysis process to produce alkaline water at an 8.4 pH level.

This is a new issue to the public domain with the company formerly known as Global Lines announcing the completion of the reverse acquisition on May 31 in which the company purchased all the shares of Alkaline Water Co. through a share exchange with its stakeholders. Subsequently, a ticker change to WTER has happened. Alkaline Water Co. is the sole shareholder of Alkaline 84, LLC, now a subsidiary of the new company. Why 84? Take a look back at the pH level of its water.

As such, the company has started operations pursuing the business plan of Alkaline 84, focused on distributing, marketing and selling its alkaline water in the retail markets. In connection with the acquisition, Steven P. Nickolas has assumed the role of President and board member of Alkaline Water Co. CPA Richard Wright has also joined the board of directors.

Nickolas has been in the beverage industry for nearly 40 years, including opening the first bottled water company in Hawaii in 1980. He also founded Apani Bottled Water in 1990, which became the first bottled water company licensed by the NFL, NHL, MLB and NBA and Beverage Images, a brand that was licensed to major Hollywood studios like Sony and Disney. Not all has been a success for Nickolas, though, including holding the top executive spot at Nutripure Beverages, Inc. (Pink Sheets:NBVG), opening him up to some harsh Internet bashing. Such is the Wild West nature of the web, which begs of investors to perform complete due diligence. Nickolas doesn’t shirk the name-calling, even defending his name at the top of his personal website.

“Consumer awareness of the healthful benefits of alkaline water has increased tenfold over the past few years. I'm pleased to help bring forth a new alkaline water product that is both the highest quality and the most cost effective. We feel certain this endeavor will be beneficial to consumers and shareholders alike," said Nickolas in today’s statement on the acquisition and ticker change.

Shares of Alkaline Water Company are still too new to make any real assessment of the technical components, drifting down in Tuesday trading by 11 percent to 40 cents from Monday’s close at 45 cents.
