Medifast, Inc. MED offers investors a difficult trade-off. The stock’s forward sales valuation is discounted to its sub-industry, while the company still faces falling revenues, a shrinking coach network and continuing losses.
The balance sheet gives Medifast time to execute its Trilivy-led turnaround, and coach productivity is improving. The key question is whether those early gains can translate into renewed client acquisition, coach growth and a durable return to profitability.
MED's Valuation Looks Cheap on Forward Sales
MED trades at 0.5X forward 12-month sales, below the food-miscellaneous sub-industry multiple of 0.81X. That discount gives the stock an inexpensive look relative to its peer group and leaves room for re-rating if operating trends improve.
The valuation case is less clear against Medifast’s own history. Its current multiple is above the one-year median of 0.4X, so the stock is not unusually cheap by that measure. A discounted peer multiple alone does not remove the execution risk surrounding the turnaround.

Medifast's Cash Cushion Reduces Balance Sheet Risk
Medifast ended the second quarter of 2026 with $169.8 million in cash, cash equivalents and investments and no debt. Working capital was $160.5 million, compared with $158.7 million at the end of 2025.
That liquidity gives the company flexibility to fund the Trilivy rollout and restructuring while operating results remain under pressure. Second-quarter revenues fell 27.6% year over year to $76.4 million, and Medifast posted a net loss of $3.1 million, or 28 cents per share.
MED's Turnaround Still Depends on Coach Recovery
The coach network remains the biggest operating vulnerability. Active earning coaches fell 48.7% year over year to 11,700 in the second quarter, even as revenue per active earning coach rose 41% to $6,529 and increased sequentially for a third consecutive quarter.
Medifast reported a second-quarter loss of 28 cents per share, substantially narrower than the consensus loss of 67 cents. Revenues also came in slightly above expectations, giving investors a better-than-feared quarterly result even as year-over-year sales remained weak.
Peer comparisons also matter. Mama's Creations, Inc. MAMA and US Foods Holding Corp. USFD provide additional context for MED's positioning within the broader food industry. Medifast still needs productivity gains to translate into stronger client acquisition and renewed coach growth. Medifast's Profitability Goal Raises the Stakes
Management is targeting a return to profitability beginning in the fourth quarter of 2026. The plan rests on revenue stabilization, the Trilivy product rollout and the Catalyst program, which is designed to reduce costs through facility rationalization, artificial-intelligence-related efficiencies and other measures.
The financial outlook shows how much work remains. Medifast expects 2026 revenues of $270 million to $300 million and a loss of 25 cents to $1.75 per share. Management also expects working capital to remain above $145 million at year-end, preserving financial flexibility as the turnaround progresses.
MED's Style Scores Argue for Selectivity
The stock currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), which points to a more balanced near-term setup than an outright buy signal. Medifast also has a Momentum Score of A, indicating favorable momentum characteristics, but that strength is not matched across the other styles. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 (Strong Buy) Rank stocks here.
MED has a Value Score of D, a VGM Score of D and a Growth Score of F. Zacks Style Scores are designed to complement the Zacks Rank, with stronger grades generally preferred. For investors weighing a low sales multiple against turnaround risk, the current mix supports a selective wait-and-see stance until operating improvement becomes more established.
