BASFY Opens Global SAP and Diaper Performance Lab in Mumbai

BASF SE BASFY has officially inaugurated its new Performance Lab for diapers and superabsorbents (SAP) in Mumbai on Aug. 18, 2026. The facility will provide technical and application services to superabsorbent customers globally. The new lab, part of BASF’s Hygiene Solutions business, was established in less than a year and is located within BASFY’s Innovation Campus Asia Pacific in Mumbai. Established in 2017 under BASF Chemicals India Private Limited, the campus is BASFY’s second-largest R&D site in the Asia Pacific region.

Building on BASFY’s global superabsorbent production network, the Global Technical Service Lab in Mumbai will offer technical support, application expertise and faster customer-focused collaboration in a key growth market. The 200-square-meter facility will conduct more than 30 testing methods, covering SAP, diaper performance and benchmark testing. It will also support the co-development of innovative superabsorbent solutions for baby diapers, adult incontinence products and feminine hygiene applications.

Per BASFY, the Mumbai Global SAP Performance Lab highlights its commitment to improving performance, sustainability and customer value globally. The company emphasized that closer collaboration and faster knowledge sharing will help accelerate innovation and develop solutions aligned with evolving consumer and market requirements.

The Mumbai SAP and Diaper Performance Labs extend beyond technical capabilities, reinforcing BASFY’s focus on customer intimacy, collaboration, speed and innovation. By strengthening customer partnerships and enabling closer engagement, the facility will support the advancement of future hygiene solutions. It will also work closely with BASFY’s existing Global Product Development Lab for superabsorbents in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
