Innodata INOD is increasingly turning research and innovation into a commercial growth engine, strengthening its position across the AI model-development lifecycle. Management said that its research capabilities are helping differentiate the company, expand existing partnerships and win new customers across pre-training, post-training, model evaluation and benchmarking.
The strategy is already translating into programs. Innodata has established an early position in agentic reinforcement learning, securing a program for personalization of long-horizon agents that is now scaling, along with another focused on reinforcement-learning environments for computer-use tasks. The company also released two public AI benchmarks and introduced the first stage of its AI Cyber Training Suite, comprising 12 datasets and evaluation systems. Robotics represents another emerging opportunity, with successful egocentric data-collection pilots progressing toward enterprise-scale multimodal programs.
Importantly, innovation is also improving the economics of the business. Innodata retains intellectual property in certain internally developed datasets, allowing the same assets to be monetized across multiple customers. Management said that this approach, alongside high-value pre-training programs, contributed to a 49% adjusted gross margin in the second quarter of 2026. Revenues surged 58% year over year to $92.1 million, while adjusted EBITDA jumped 92% to $25.4 million.
The runway remains promising. Innodata reiterated its 2026 revenue-growth outlook of at least 40%, excluding several potentially large programs not yet incorporated into guidance. Still, project timing and customer concentration can create quarterly volatility. If Innodata keeps converting research breakthroughs into scalable, recurring programs, innovation could remain a major driver of growth well beyond 2026.
Innodata Faces Competition Across the AI Data Market
Innodata faces competition from TaskUs TASK and Accenture ACN as enterprises and AI developers increase spending on model training, evaluation and AI deployment. TaskUs has expanded its AI Services capabilities across data annotation, model evaluation and other human-in-the-loop workflows. TaskUs also benefits from its established relationships with technology companies and its ability to combine specialized talent with AI-enabled services. Continued investment in AI Services could make TaskUs a stronger competitor as demand for complex model-development support grows.
Accenture represents a broader competitive threat through its large-scale data and AI consulting capabilities. Accenture helps enterprises develop, fine-tune and deploy generative and agentic AI solutions while providing supporting data engineering and governance services. Its extensive customer relationships and global delivery scale give Accenture considerable reach. Innodata, however, is differentiating itself through proprietary research, reusable datasets and reinforcement-learning capabilities that can turn technical innovation into scalable customer programs.
