Penguin Solutions, Inc. PENG is turning rapid Integrated Memory growth into an increasingly important competitive advantage, with its AI-driven memory portfolio positioning it favorably against Micron Technology MU and Marvell Technology MRVL. As AI inference workloads become more persistent and memory-intensive, PENG’s focus on specialized memory, CXL and MemoryAI could help it capture a larger share of expanding AI infrastructure spending.
The opportunity is already noticeable in its results. Integrated Memory revenues surged 111% year over year to $275 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2026, supported by higher volumes and favorable pricing across DRAM and Flash. The segment’s non-GAAP operating income jumped 399% year over year and 246.3% for the first nine months, highlighting the earnings leverage accompanying the growth.
Penguin Solutions is also expanding beyond traditional memory products. Its CXL memory expansion cards generated revenues and new bookings in the reported quarter, while the MemoryAI KV Cache Server is designed to deliver up to 2X higher inference performance, up to 8X lower time-to-first-token latency and memory costs roughly 4X-5X lower than GPU HBM.
Customer expansion and backlog provide additional support, with five of 16 new Integrated Memory customers subsequently increasing their business. Penguin Solutions also raised its fiscal 2026 Memory revenue-growth outlook to 90%-95%.
Overall, PENG appears capable of turning Integrated Memory growth into a meaningful competitive edge, provided its CXL, MemoryAI and data-center momentum continue.
How Do the Competitors Perform Against PENG?
Micron Technology challenges PENG through its broad DRAM and NAND portfolio, directly overlapping specialty memory and storage demand. MU is also advancing high-performance data-center memory, including HBM4, DDR5 and LPDRAM-based SOCAMM2, strengthening its position in AI infrastructure. With leadership in these memory products, Micron Technology can pressure PENG as AI-driven memory requirements expand.
Marvell Technology competes with PENG through CXL and AI-infrastructure technologies, including memory interface controllers and near-memory compute. MRVL says its CXL technology is gaining high-volume hyperscaler deployments for memory expansion and inference. Thus, Marvell Technology is targeting that same opportunity for AI-driven memory expansion while simultaneously expanding its portfolio of custom XPU-connected solutions.
