The Vita Coco Company Inc. COCO is expanding beyond its core coconut water business as it looks to create growth avenues through product innovation. The company’s latest launch, Vita Coco Treats, a coconut milk-based beverage, is gaining early traction and could help broaden the brand’s appeal by creating consumption occasions. Management noted that Treats was nationally launched in the United States in the first quarter of 2025 and contributed positively to growth, with Circana data indicating that the product would have added 4% to Vita Coco Coconut Water’s U.S. retail scan growth in the second quarter if reported as part of the broader brand family.
The company sees coconut milk-based beverages as a complementary opportunity rather than a shift away from coconut water. Management highlighted that coconut water remains the foundation of Vita Coco’s strategy, with applications ranging from sports hydration to everyday refreshment. However, the company believes that coconut milk beverages represent an emerging trend, particularly in Asia, wherein coconut milk-based refreshments have gained popularity in coffee shops and other consumer settings. Vita Coco aims to capitalize on this trend as it expands across North America and Western Europe.
Innovation remains a key part of Vita Coco’s broader growth strategy, which also includes multipacks, Vita Coco Farmers Organic, Vita Coco Juice, expanded convenience store distribution and investments in food service. With coconut water demand continuing to rise, the company believes that it has significant room to grow, particularly as it expands household penetration and increases consumption occasions.
While Treats is still in its early stages and requires further distribution expansion, its initial performance suggests that innovation could become an important contributor to Vita Coco’s long-term growth strategy.
