Weekly Wrap: Bitcoin’s Win Streak Continues

Bitcoin’s (CRYPTO: $BTC) win streak continued for a third consecutive week as the cryptocurrency’s price hovers near $80,000 U.S. on Sept. 4. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum (CRYPTO: $ETH) continue to outperform the broader market as investors seek safety from volatile stocks and a fragile bond market.

Bitcoin’s price rose 5% for the past week and hit a high of $82,272.31 U.S. on Sept. 3. That was its highest level since May 11 when the price reached $82,499.99 U.S. The three-week win streak is a recovery for Bitcoin, which had been rangebound between $60,000 U.S. and $65,000 U.S. for several months.

Other cryptocurrencies also continue to rally, with Ethereum’s price hitting a multi-month high of $2,545.62 U.S. on Sept. 4. Smaller cryptocurrencies and memecoins are also marching higher, with Dogecoin’s price gaining 10% on Sept. 3 to trade at $0.09 U.S. per token. Bitcoin last hit a record high of just over $126,000 U.S. on Oct. 6, 2025.

Here’s what else happened with cryptocurrencies over the past week…

Anthropic To Acquire Computing Power From Hut 8: Artificial intelligence (A.I.) startup Anthropic will acquire computing power from Hut 8’s (NASDAQ: $HUT) Texas data centre facility. Anthropic has agreed to spend $35 billion U.S. buying computing capacity from privately held Lambda, an A.I. cloud company backed by chipmaker Nvidia (NASDAQ: $NVDA). Polymarket Raises $1 Billion In Latest Funding Round: Prediction market Polymarket raised $1 billion U.S. in its latest funding round. The funding round valued Polymarket at $21 billion U.S. and was led by Donald Trump Jr.'s venture capital firm 1789 Capital. Don Jr. is U.S. President Donald Trump’s son. The new valuation is a 40% increase from the $15 billion U.S. that Polymarket was valued at during a funding round held earlier this year.

Prediction Market Battle Referred To Supreme Court: The battle over regulating prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket has been referred to the U.S. Supreme Court. The State of New Jersey has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review a case that could determine whether states or the federal government have oversight of prediction markets. In most cases, sports betting and other forms of gambling are regulated by individual U.S. states. However, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), a federal agency, has asserted that it has authority over prediction markets.

Bitcoin ETFs See Biggest Inflow Since January: U.S. exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that track the spot price of Bitcoin have recorded their biggest daily inflow of investor capital since January of this year. About a dozen spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $730.9 million U.S. of net inflows on Sept. 3. Strategy CEO Defends Bitcoin Purchases And Sales: Strategy CEO Phong Le defended the company’s Bitcoin purchases and sales over the past few months. Strategy has come under fire for selling nearly 7,000 Bitcoin at prices ranging from $60,000 U.S. to $65,000 U.S. and then buying the cryptocurrency again at $80,000 U.S. Critics say Strategy’s moves are the opposite of the “buy low and sell high” maxim on Wall Street. But Le defended the trades, saying they were driven by capital costs rather than the prevailing price of Bitcoin. “It was the right trade at the time to sell Bitcoin to fund some of our dividends," Le said in a media interview.

Bitcoin-Gold Correlation Hits Six-Year High: Bitcoin’s correlation with gold has reached its highest level since the Covid-19 pandemic struck in 2020. Bitcoin and gold have moved more closely together amid rising bond yields and a market selloff, with their 90-day correlation reaching a six-year high, according to data from Bitwise. In recent years, Bitcoin has traded more inline with technology stocks than gold. However, BTC has moved away from equities during the latest spate of market volatility. Bitcoin rose nearly 25% in the second half of August during the bond market turmoil, while gold’s price climbed 5% higher and stocks declined.

Crypto Market Cap Nears $3 Trillion: The global market capitalization of cryptocurrencies is at $2.82 trillion U.S. on Sept. 4, its highest level in more than seven months. The crypto market cap is fast approaching $3 trillion U.S. as the price of Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, has again broken above $80,000 U.S. In mid-January, the crypto market cap stood at $3.4 trillion U.S. It then fell as low as $2.05 trillion U.S. at the end of June when Bitcoin was trading at $58,000 U.S.
