Here's Why You Should Hold ESI Stock in Your Portfolio Now

Element Solutions Inc. ESI continues to benefit from strong Electronics demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, high-performance computing, advanced semiconductor packaging, data centers and thermal management solutions, alongside operational efficiencies, procurement discipline, supply chain optimization and stronger cash generation. However, subdued Industrial demand, raw material and logistics inflation, escalating tariffs, trade policy uncertainty and the risk of delayed cost pass-through could pressure volumes, margins, free cash flow and near-term earnings.

The company’s shares have gained 35.8% over a year compared with the industry’s 4.1% decline.

Let’s find out why ESI stock is worth retaining at the moment.

Element Solutions Gains From AI and Operational Efficiencies

Element Solutions remains well-positioned in structurally growing end markets such as high-performance computing, data centers and advanced electronics, with the second quarter demonstrating continued strength in demand tied to AI infrastructure. Electronics organic sales increased 20% in the second quarter, led by Semiconductor Solutions, while demand remained strong for advanced semiconductor packaging, advanced PCB chemistries, engineered assembly materials and metallization solutions, supporting data centers and high-performance computing.

The company is also benefiting from growing demand for thermal interface materials used in high-power AI GPUs and CPUs, highlighting its exposure to increasing power density and thermal-management requirements. Customer engagements continue to accelerate as technical requirements become more complex, reinforcing the company's positioning in innovation-led specialty chemistries and supporting durable long-term growth.

Element Solutions continues to benefit from operational efficiency initiatives, with procurement, supply chain optimization and productivity improvements supporting profitability. The company is making progress in inventory management following several years of supply chain disruption, while flexible supply chain capabilities are helping improve cost efficiency and maintain customer service.

Management also continues to focus on procurement discipline and productivity improvements, particularly within the Industrial business, where these initiatives have helped offset weaker volumes and preserve profitability.

Element Solutions concluded the second quarter of 2026 with cash and cash equivalents of $189.6 million, up from $177.3 million in the prior quarter. Cash flows from operating activities were $99.6 million in the quarter, up from $72.6 million a year ago. Free cash flow rose to $73.7 million, demonstrating stronger quarterly cash generation.

Element Solutions Faces Cost Inflation and Demand Risks

Element Solutions continues to face uneven demand, with growth concentrated in Electronics, supported by sustained investment in AI infrastructure, high-performance computing, advanced semiconductor packaging and data centers. In contrast, Industrial Solutions remains subdued due to softer industrial demand and raw material inflation. The growing focus on higher-value electronics strengthens long-term prospects but also increases exposure to semiconductor, AI and data-center spending.

Element Solutions acknowledged that escalating tariffs and broader trade policy uncertainty pose meaningful macro risks. While the company has not yet experienced a material decline in customer demand, management maintained a wider-than-normal outlook, indicating that weaker industrial activity could pressure volumes and margins across its end markets.

Element Solutions faces a near-term margin risk from raw-material and logistics inflation. Management expects these costs to remain a headwind in the second half of 2026 and cautioned that they may not be immediately recovered through pricing and sourcing actions. This lag in cost pass-through could limit margin expansion and create downside risk to earnings if inflationary pressures persist.
