Evolution Metals & Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: EMAT) has put a striking number on its next chapter. The U.S.-based critical materials company issued initial revenue guidance of $400 million to $460 million for fiscal 2027, a major step up from the $5 million to $8 million it expects for fiscal 2026, as an expanded magnet operation in South Korea comes online. The jump reflects what management expects to be the first full year of production at dramatically larger scale.
The timing lines up with a shift in Washington. The magnets at the center of the business are neodymium-iron-boron magnets, the compact, powerful components inside electric motors, drones and advanced defense systems, and China controls most of the world's supply. Starting January 1, 2027, a U.S. defense sourcing rule known as DFARS 252.225-7052 extends its restriction across the entire chain that produces those magnets, from mining through finished manufacturing, with China among the covered countries. A July 2026 executive order tightened the conditions for waivers and pushed for faster qualification of compliant suppliers. Together they are pushing U.S. defense contractors to qualify magnet supply chains outside the covered countries, and Evolution Metals is positioning to serve that demand.
That build-out is already in motion from an operating base in Pohang, Republic of Korea. Evolution Metals has placed binding purchase orders for thirteen additional ULVAC magnet-making machines, scheduled for delivery and installation in November 2026, which it expects to lift annual capacity from roughly 1,000 metric tons today to roughly 10,000 metric tons, including about 6,000 metric tons of high-performance sintered magnets. Sintered magnets are made by pressing magnetic powder into shape and heating it into a dense solid, the process behind the strongest magnets used in demanding motor applications.
The guidance is based on management's current expectations for customer demand and the conversion of prospective opportunities into orders and shipments, rather than contracted volumes. It reflects anticipated utilization during the production ramp and does not represent the revenue potential of the planned capacity at full utilization.
The company is not starting from zero. In June, it completed quality certification with two global Tier-1 electronics manufacturers across six grades of high-performance sintered magnets, drawing on more than 18 years of commercial magnet-making experience in its operating subsidiaries. It has also taken its first shipment of non-China neodymium-praseodymium metal, a core magnet input, under an agreement with Senri Trading and sourced from SRE Vietnam. Its vertically integrated model reaches back to what it calls urban mining, recovering rare earth material from end-of-life electronics and batteries, a closed-loop approach designed to secure its own feedstock.
The supporting infrastructure is coming together. In August, EM&T announced agreed principal terms with Korea Electric Power Corporation to expand power at the Pohang site from 130 megawatts to roughly 750 megawatts, along with plans to acquire additional land and conditional approval of an approximately $20.7 million government grant, backing from Korean authorities that underscores local support for the expansion.
Taken together, the guidance turns a year of announcements into a concrete target. Evolution Metals has spent 2026 assembling the pieces of a non-China magnet supply chain: an operating Korean base, customer-certified products and a non-China feedstock relationship, with a policy tailwind arriving on January 1. The 2027 outlook is management’s marker for what those pieces can produce, and the next year of execution, from machine installation to customer conversion, will show how quickly it takes shape.
