Can RTX's GTF Aftermarket Expansion Boost Its Growth Outlook?

RTX Corporation RTX is expanding its commercial aerospace aftermarket opportunity as Pratt & Whitney increases support capabilities for its Geared Turbofan (“GTF”) engine family. The GTF aftermarket network expanded to 21 facilities worldwide in 2025, while PW1100G-JM shop-visit output increased approximately 26% year over year. The growing support network provides RTX with a broader platform to serve its expanding installed base.

The GTF family powers more than 2,600 aircraft operated by more than 90 operators across the Airbus A320neo family, Airbus A220 and Embraer E-Jets E2 platforms. This large installed base creates recurring opportunities for maintenance, repair and overhaul (“MRO”) services as engines require inspections, repairs and other aftermarket support. Pratt & Whitney also provides fleet management and aftermarket services across its commercial and military engine portfolio.

The company is continuing to advance the GTF platform through product improvements. In 2025, the GTF Advantage engine received certification for the Airbus A320neo family. The engine is designed to provide higher takeoff thrust while reducing fuel consumption compared with the current GTF engine. Continued development of the engine family could support the long-term value of the installed base and create additional aftermarket opportunities.

The aftermarket opportunity is also supported by RTX’s overall financial scale. Pratt & Whitney generated $32.9 billion in sales in 2025, up from $28.1 billion a year earlier, while operating profit increased to $2.6 billion from $2 billion. As the GTF fleet continues to mature and its global support network expands, higher aftermarket activity could provide another avenue for RTX to strengthen commercial aerospace growth.

Companies Expanding Commercial Engine Aftermarket

The expansion of commercial aircraft fleets is creating opportunities for engine manufacturers to grow aftermarket services, including MRO. GE Aerospace GE and Safran S.A SAFRY are two major aerospace companies with significant exposure to commercial engine support and services.

GE Aerospace provides commercial aircraft engines and aftermarket services across a large installed fleet, supporting recurring demand for inspections, repairs and maintenance as flight hours accumulate.

Safran has a broad commercial engine aftermarket business, covering spare parts, maintenance, repair and overhaul services. Its expanding LEAP fleet also creates a growing installed base for future aftermarket activity.
