As the global push for clean energy accelerates, uranium is rapidly reclaiming its spot in the spotlight. Governments in North America and Europe are openly discussing the expansion of nuclear energy, while supply concerns continue to hover over the market. The result has been renewed investor focus on explorers and developers capable of uncovering the next major source of fuel for the nuclear renaissance.

Shares of ATHA Energy Corp. (TSX-Venture: SASK) (OTCQB: SASKF) are climbing Tuesday after the company reported what it calls its best exploration hole to date at the Angilak Uranium Project in Nunavut, Canada. The results mark a major new discovery along the Mineralized RIB Corridor (“MRC”) and add to a growing pipeline of uranium zones being defined across the property.

ATHA said that maiden drillhole RIBN-DD-001 at the new RIB North discovery intersected 26.3 metres of composite uranium mineralization, including 1.9 metres of high-grade zones. Within that, a continuous 13.6 metre interval of mineralization was hit between 426.25 and 439.85 metres, with peak radioactivity readings as high as 55,730 counts per second. Importantly, the mineralization was encountered directly above the unconformity and extended into graphitic basement rocks, with geological characteristics resembling basement-hosted deposits in the Athabasca Basin.

The significance of the results is underscored by scale. Mineralization along the eastern limb of the MRC now extends over 4.4 kilometres, while the western limb covers roughly 4.0 kilometres. The combined 12-kilometre corridor remains open for additional discoveries, giving ATHA multiple untested targets and the potential to define a district-scale uranium system.

CEO Troy Boisjoli said the latest results demonstrate that Angilak has the potential to host thick, high-grade mineralization on par with other major discoveries in Canada’s uranium-rich regions. He noted that with the U.S. government recently highlighting the need to bolster its strategic uranium reserves, ATHA’s progress comes at a critical time for the sector. VP of Exploration Cliff Revering added that the consistency of results across multiple targets within the MRC highlights both scale and continuity, validating the company’s thesis that the Angikuni Basin could be Canada’s next uranium district.

Alongside Angilak, ATHA also holds projects in Labrador and the Athabasca Basin, as well as a carried interest in properties operated by NexGen Energy Ltd. and IsoEnergy Ltd. With more than seven million acres of exploration ground, ATHA positions itself as one of the largest landholders in premier uranium jurisdictions.

Shares of SASK are up 5.0% at $0.63, while U.S.-listed shares of SASKF are ahead 6.0% at $0.4548 in Tuesday afternoon trading.
