It's no secret that the U.S. government is pulling out all the stops to secure critical metals essential to the technology, defense, and other key industries. Today, one mining company made significant progress toward that goal—and investors are taking notice, bidding up its shares in the open market.

Shares of Graphite One Inc. (TSX-Venture: GPH) (OTCQX: GPHOF) are on the move higher as the company achieved a major milestone with its Graphite Creek Project in Alaska becoming the first mining project in the state to be accepted onto the FAST-41 Permitting Dashboard.

This designation is a critical step toward expediting federal permitting, signaling the project’s national strategic importance. The move follows the recent completion of Graphite One’s Feasibility Study—funded by a $37.3 million Defense Production Act (DPA) award—which dramatically increased projected production and resource estimates while accelerating development timelines. The project is now positioned to play a central role in President Trump's push to boost U.S. mineral production and reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.

The FAST-41 status brings improved transparency, defined timelines, and more efficient coordination among federal agencies—key advantages for a project of this scale. Graphite One’s feasibility study outlines plans to produce up to 175,000 tons per year of graphite concentrate over a 20-year mine life, with a projected post-tax internal rate of return of 27% and a net present value of $5.03 billion.

This positions the Graphite Creek mine and the accompanying advanced graphite processing facility planned for Warren, Ohio, as core components in building a fully domestic graphite supply chain. The project has drawn widespread praise from Alaska's top officials, who emphasized its potential to bolster both economic development and national security by reducing America’s dependency on imported critical minerals.

The Graphite Creek deposit, recognized by the U.S. Geological Survey as the largest natural graphite deposit in the U.S., will feed raw material to the Ohio manufacturing plant. That facility has already secured a $325 million Letter of Interest from the U.S. EXIM Bank, indicating strong institutional support for the venture. As the U.S. pushes to establish more resilient and sovereign mineral supply chains, Graphite One’s progress could mark a pivotal shift in American resource independence and industrial competitiveness.

Shares of GPH are currently up 10.84% at $0.92 while U.S. listed shares (GPHOF) are up 12.05% at $0.6786 in late-morning trading.
