As gold prices remain buoyant near multi-year highs, investor attention is increasingly focused on exploration stories that could deliver the next district-scale discovery. Brazil’s central-western Juruena Gold Belt, already host to over six million ounces of historical placer production, continues to attract juniors eager to prove up large, untapped hard-rock systems.

Shares of Altamira Gold Corp. (TSX-V: ALTA) (OTCQB: EQTRF) are surging Tuesday after the company announced the completion of its first deep drill hole at the Maria Bonita target, alongside encouraging surface results from nearby Tavares Norte within its Cajueiro District project in Mato Grosso, Brazil.

Altamira reported that drill hole MBA032, located 100 meters south of a standout hole from earlier this year (213 meters grading 0.8 g/t gold, including 146 meters at 1 g/t), cut more than 500 meters of brecciated and highly altered porphyritic intrusive rocks. Quartz veinlet densities averaged roughly four per meter, with assay results pending. CEO Mike Bennett noted that the scale of alteration intersected suggests the intrusive system could be “significantly larger than currently envisaged,” with additional holes planned once assays are received.

At the Tavares Norte target, located four kilometers east of Maria Bonita, surface mapping and sampling indicate the sericite alteration zone extends 1.5 kilometers farther east than previously known, now connecting with the Morro Verde target. Of 94 grab samples collected, 20 returned gold values above 0.1 g/t, with one sample assaying 27.5 g/t gold along with 929 ppm copper. Several samples were also anomalous in molybdenum, up to 356 ppm. At Morro Verde, 13 of 62 grab samples assayed above 0.1 g/t, including 5.2 g/t gold with coincident copper and molybdenum values.

Supporting the fieldwork, a high-resolution drone magnetic survey is underway across 56 km² of the Cajueiro District. To date, 75% of the program has been completed, providing detailed magnetic data to refine target definition.

The Cajueiro District already hosts two defined gold deposits. At Cajueiro Central, indicated resources stand at 185,000 ounces with a further 515,000 ounces inferred. Maria Bonita itself contains 357,800 ounces indicated and 362,400 ounces inferred. The current program is designed to expand upon these resources while testing multiple untested porphyry-style targets across the district.

Canadian-listed shares of ALTA are spiking 51.6% at $0.235 in morning trading, while U.S.-listed shares of EQTRF are surging 48.4% to $0.169.
