West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. WST turned a better-than-expected second quarter into a higher 2026 outlook. Organic sales growth accelerated, margins widened and adjusted earnings increased sharply, giving investors a clearer read on how High-Value Product demand is translating into financial performance.
The quarter matters because the guidance increase was supported by broad HVP momentum rather than a single product line. Execution risks remain in West Vantage and the SmartDose transition, but the earnings trajectory improved.
WST's Q2 Beat Resets 2026 Expectations
Adjusted earnings rose 28.8% year over year to $2.37 per share and topped the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 13.9%. Revenues increased 13.8% to $872.3 million and exceeded the consensus mark by 4.2%.
Organic net sales advanced 12.7%, showing that the strength was not dependent on currency effects. Proprietary Products revenues rose 16.6% on a reported basis and 15.5% organically, providing most of the quarter's momentum.
West Raises Its 2026 Revenue and EPS View
West lifted full-year revenue guidance to $3.345 billion-$3.380 billion from $3.295 billion-$3.350 billion. The company now expects organic revenue growth of 10%-11% in 2026.
Adjusted earnings guidance increased to $8.85-$9.05 per share from $8.40-$8.75. The higher ranges reflect the second-quarter outperformance and stronger expectations for HVP Components and HVP Delivery Devices.
WST's HVP Mix Drives the Earnings Upside
HVP Components sales rose 19.4% to $424.1 million, while HVP Delivery Devices sales climbed 29.6% to $131.2 million. The mix shift helped lift gross margin 200 basis points to 37.7% and adjusted operating margin 230 basis points to 22.6%.
The broader GLP-1 market remains active. Eli Lilly and Company LLY has reported positive phase 3 results for retatrutide in obesity and type 2 diabetes, while Novo Nordisk A/S NVO continues to expand Wegovy across oral and injectable formats.
West Vantage and SmartDose Keep Risk in View
West Vantage revenues increased 2% on a reported basis and 0.8% organically. Cyber-related production downtime reduced second-quarter revenues by about $7 million and pressured the segment's profitability.
West completed the SmartDose 3.5mL manufacturing and supply rights sale to AbbVie on July 1. The transaction creates a revenue transition as the delivery-device portfolio shifts toward SelfDose, Crystal Zenith and other remaining platforms.
WST's Margin Gains Strengthen the Read-Through
Management expects more than 200 basis points of full-year operating-margin expansion versus 2025. HVP mix and pricing are helping offset oil and commodity inflation while higher revenues provide operating leverage.
West Vantage is expected to reach its low point in the third quarter before improving. If that recovery develops alongside continued HVP growth, the second-quarter guidance increase would reflect a broader earnings progression rather than a one-quarter beat.
Wrapping Up
The bottom line is that the second-quarter beat strengthened West's 2026 earnings case. Faster HVP growth, higher guidance and wider margins support the operating story, while West Vantage execution and the SmartDose transition remain near-term variables.
Currently, West carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Likewise, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk also carry a Zacks Rank of 3. You can see the complete list of today’s Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here.
