Virtu Financial, Inc. VIRT recently announced the launch of new notional order execution capabilities for 10b-18 corporate buyback programs, giving clients the ability to specify purchases by dollar value instead of a fixed number of shares. The feature can calculate trading value with or without commission, helping issuers and broker-dealers manage the exact amount allocated to repurchases.
Virtu supports notional instructions across VWAP/TWAP, POV, FAN Aggressive and Passive, and Covert Aggressive algorithms, giving clients greater flexibility to align execution with their buyback objectives and budgets. The company said only a handful of financial companies offer this capability. Truist Bank is among Virtu’s sell-side partners using the new offering, with its internal analysis showing Virtu’s notional execution beating a competing provider on both benchmark performance and total notional value executed.
Corporate buybacks are highly sensitive to execution, pacing and budget control, so trading against a precise dollar amount can make programs easier to manage. Virtu says its platform gives clients greater control over total spending while still allowing them to choose execution strategies based on urgency and risk. With a few providers offering notional orders, Virtu could use the feature to attract incremental order flow from corporate issuers and broker-dealers and strengthen existing client relationships.
This could provide an incremental growth opportunity for a business that generated $360.6 million in Execution Services revenues in the first half of 2026, up 1.4% year over year. Higher adoption could increase Execution Services volumes and revenues, while Virtu’s algorithmic infrastructure could support additional activity without a comparable increase in overhead.
VIRT’s Price Performance
Shares of Virtu Financial have surged 78.6% in the year-to-date period against 9% decline of the industry it belongs to.
