The lithium sector continues to attract significant corporate investment as major players position themselves for the expanding battery metals market. With electric vehicle adoption accelerating globally and energy storage demand growing, lithium assets in proven production regions are commanding premium valuations from strategic acquirers seeking to secure critical raw material supplies for the green energy transition.

Shareholders of Lithium South Development Corporation (TSX-V: LIS) (OTCQB: LISMF) responded enthusiastically to today's announcement of a potential $62 million acquisition offer for the company's entire lithium project portfolio, sending shares significantly higher on the day. The offer came from POSCO Argentina S.A.U., the Argentine subsidiary of POSCO Holdings, one of the world's leading steel and battery materials producers listed on both the Korea Exchange and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: PKX).

The Letter of Intent covers the purchase of Lithium South's 100% owned Hombre Muerto North Lithium Project, along with the Sophia 1, 2 and 3 concessions and the Hydra X and Hydra XI concessions currently under purchase option. The combined concession groups represent a comprehensive lithium portfolio in Argentina's prolific lithium triangle, located in the heart of one of the world's most productive lithium regions.

POSCO Holdings is the ultimate parent company of the POSCO Group and is already the sole owner and operator of the neighboring Sal de Oro lithium project in the Hombre Muerto Salar. This acquisition would allow POSCO to consolidate its position in the area and expand its lithium production capacity to support its battery materials business.

The LOI is non-binding and subject to several conditions, including a 60-day due diligence period followed by a 60-day period for negotiation and execution of the definitive agreement. During this period, Lithium South has agreed not to solicit or entertain offers from other parties. The transaction will require regulatory approvals and shareholder approval at a future meeting.

Lithium South's HMN Li Project is strategically located in Salta and Catamarca Provinces, adjacent to POSCO's billion-dollar lithium development now in production. The project has a NI 43-101 compliant resource of 1,583,200 tonnes Lithium Carbonate Equivalent at an average grade of 736 mg/L lithium, with 1,463,000 tonnes in the measured category and 120,000 tonnes in the indicated category.

The Salar del Hombre Muerto has a proven history of lithium production, with Rio Tinto Lithium operating to the south for over twenty-five years. A recent Preliminary Economic Assessment outlined potential to develop a 15,600 tonne per year lithium carbonate project, with the company now advancing toward a Feasibility Study.

Canadian shares of LIS are up 28.0% to $0.32 in early morning trading Wednesday, while US shares of LISMF have gained 10% to $0.176.
