Shares of this green tech focused micro cap are rallying on news that the company’s innovative Graphene Aluminium Ion Battery is now patented in Australia. With a promising prototype in development alongside major partners, this breakthrough technology could usher in a new energy storage landscape.

As mentioned, shares of Graphene Manufacturing Group Limited (TSX-Venture: GMG) (OTCQX: GMGMF) are on the move as the company announced that its patent for the Graphene Aluminium Ion Battery has been approved in Australia, while patent applications in other countries are advancing. The University of Queensland (UQ) owns the patent, with GMG holding an exclusive global commercialization license. GMG is co-developing the Graphene Aluminium Ion Battery Pouch Cell Prototype with UQ and Rio Tinto.

Additionally, GMG has entered a new Collaborative Research Agreement with UQ’s Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) to continue their joint work on the battery. UQ has also secured AU$880,000 in Australian Government grant funding to further advance the technology.

Shares of GMG are currently up 13.11% at $0.69 while shares of the U.S. listing (GMGMF) have popped 13.33% at $0.506 in late-morning trading.
